Steak Rum Gravy

This is the most amazing gravy you MUST make whenever you're having a nice juicy steak.  Normally I will have my steak with corn and mashed potatoes and just smother everything with this gravy!  Try it yourself and let me know! :)

Ingredients
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 beef tenderloin steaks
salt
pepper
3 tablespoons Jack Daniel's whiskey
2 small garlic cloves, minced
1 teaspoon assorted peppercorn, crushed
1/4 teaspoon dried leaf oregano
1/4 teaspoon dried leaf basil
1/8 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup whipping cream
1 1/2 tablespoons sour cream
fresh chopped parsley

Preparation
Heat olive oil in a medium skillet over high heat until hot. Sprinkle tenderloin steaks with salt and pepper. Sear tenderloin steaks on both sides in skillet. Remove from skillet and place on a rack in a boiler pan.

Broil 4 to 5 inches from heat 4 to 6 minutes on each side.

Add bourbon to drippings in skillet, bring to a boil over medium heat and deglaze pan scaping browned bits that cling to the bottom. Add minced garlic, peppercorns, basil, oregano and salt and cook for 1 minute. Add whipping cream, bring to boil and cook for 6 to 7 minutes or until sauce is reduced by half. Remove from heat. Whisk in sour cream. Spoon sauce over steaks and garnish with chopped parsley if desired.

My secret weapon- my incredible hairdresser!

So ya'll keep asking how my hair is ridiculously healthy and yet still maintaining being a blonde!  Well I guess I should let the secret out huh?  I met Curtis almost 8 months ago and instantly had an amazing connection with him.  He's confident, sweet, talented and super down to earth.  Better yet, he's one of the most amazing colourist i've ever known! My hair has never had breakage once since i've known him!

The salon is downtown vancouver called Ignite Beauty Lounge.  It's prestigious, bright, comfortable and just located outside stadium skytrain which makes it super convenient!  Nikki who is the owner of the salon is the most sweetest girl you will ever meet let alone her amazing staff.  You will NOT be disappointed!

When you go there, check out their heated scissor cuts, you will never go back to normal cutting again!  Why?  Well you will have to get it to understand! :)

One ingredient you MUST have in your fridge!!!!

I'm very excited to be sharing this one ingredient I LOVE!!!  It was brought to my attention from a friend of mine who will be coming out with his own cookbook soon!  You can check him out here!  http://www.modelmayhem.com/1472615

Any single ladies, he's all yours!  A man that can cook!  Get on it! :)

Anyways, not that he's less important but this MUST be shared!  So this ingredient is called "BRAGGS".  It's kind of similar to soya sauce but doesn't have the sodium or the calories that comes with it.  The weird part is?  It tastes even BETTER then soya sauce!

This is what the bottle looks like:

You can find it in the soya sauce aisle.  I normally either put this in my brown basmati rice, fried veggies, mix it with balsamic vinegar for a salad dressing or even pour it over your meats while they are cooking! You will NOT be unsatisfied with this one!!

Let me know what y'all think!

My Ultimate Favourite Household Item!

I'm the type of person that loves an amazing smelling home.  So i've tried incense which gives me headaches, candles that last for only a half an hour maybe and very limited on the smell.  Well I finally found an AMAZING product you must have!

It's called a nebulizer.  I got mine from Saje!

This is what it looks like:

This goes for about 6-8 hours, cleaning is simple (all you need is to spray it down with 99% alcohol) and the aroma in your home will be incredible!

My two favourite blends from Saje are "Yoga" which refreshes and cleans the air, relaxing and is incredible especially when you are meditating or doing yoga!

My second favourite is "Tantra".  I actually sometimes use it as perfume that's how much I like it!  It's extremely relaxing and just smells incredible!

The nebulizer is meant to clean the air, helps with allergens while adding a long lasting amazing aroma!  You can go to the Saje website: http://saje.ca/all-natural/healthy-enviro/nebulizer-black.html and you can read through each oil blend and choose the one that suits you!  There are also other nebulizers to choose from- this one is my favourite though as it covers more square footage of the place! :-)

Breakfast, lunch, dessert OR snack.

This delicious meal was bought to me by a friend named Alexandra Stroh.  It's simple, delicious and extremely healthy!  It can be modified however you please, but will explain how I personally like doing it :)  Once you realize how filling it is, hopefully it'll become a meal you will always indulge on before opting for the sugary cereals, desserts, etc!

Handful of oats- I like the ones that look like tiny snowflakes.  Add a little water where it soaks the oats just over top.  Microwave 1minute.

Smooth on with a spoon (like you would icing on a cake) a layer of your choice of yogurt on top of the oats.  I like greek style vanilla yogurt!

Add cut up strawberries and granola.

Like I said, you may add whatever you'd like whether it's a mix of berries, flax seed, nuts, etc...

Enjoy!  Eat this like a trifle... yum yum!

Full moon tonight!

This is a day that's high with energy and light removes darkness.  Let this be an opportunity to give light inside ourselves as well.  Think about all the things you are grateful for.  Think about the people (good and bad) who have come and gone throughout our lives and the things you've learned from them.  Tell someone you love them.  Hug someone.  Smile at strangers.  Stretch.  Remove tension throughout your whole body.  Let today be a day that you completely forget about anything that is negative.  Say thank you to the universe for what it has given you.

xoxo

Meditation- does it really work?

Have you ever thought about how often we think?  Most of the time we can't shut off our minds!  It leads to jaw clenching, stress, angry, anxiety and a number of other health issues.  I'm a jaw clencher.  I won't even notice it until i'm in major pain!  I also have a hard time with stress management.  I sometimes would think so negative or I would just plain think too much.  Luckily, I finally took a chance and did something about it and will never look back again.

Meditation could be a quick 3 minute breathing exercise while sitting or up to an hour of properly meditation.  Basically, you're shutting your brain off temporarily.  There is so much noise in our head it's extremely refreshing to be able to turn it off.

If you would like to find 100 reasons why meditation helps, click here! http://www.ineedmotivation.com/blog/2008/05/100-benefits-of-meditation/

For me, it REALLY helped me with anxiety, depression, stress etc.  To get the full benefits you must do it daily or as often as possible.  Try it for a month straight- opt for 45 min a day and let me know what YOU'VE personally got from it.

Now lets begin!  I sometimes go to the beach, park or at home to meditate.  If i'm at home, I put on extremely quiet nature music.  I then put a pillow on the ground which I sit on, back rested "straight" on the front of my couch for support and cross my legs.  Have your hands resting on your legs- palms facing upwards.  You can start with your eyes slightly open.  Express all the things you are grateful for.  If you are seeking answers, ask.  You can ask your mind anything- if you need more creativity or a question then do this before you shut your brain off.  Then try to shut your mind off- you will notice all the noise that's in your mind.  Just listen to each breath and try subsiding every thought and keep going back to your breath.  Slowely close your eyes when you feel it's ready.  Feel each breath and try focusing on nothing but darkness or lightness haha whichever you prefer :)  Always concentrate on your breathing.

When you are ready to get out of it you will feel awake yet relaxed, stressfree, happy and sometimes even high lol -personal experience.  I feel that answers come more readily to me and I can handle things much better.  It's really fun!

Now it's your turn to try!  Any questions, feel free to ask :)

Dear Cardio Finatics

Have you ever known someone that goes to the gym and stay on a cardio machine for an hour or longer?  Unfortunately, I know a lot who do!  Each of them also complain that their body doesn't get any better and just plain ole stays the same!

Think of your body like a sponge.  Women have a lot more then men, this is why men can lose weight much quicker them women.  So for women, fat stores much easier on our bodies because of this.  How do we get rid of the spongy material?  Easy!  Adding muscle!

A lot of women have a misconception of lifting weights, thinking they will start looking bulky and look like Hulk Hogan.  Well you can, with the right diet!  But most diets do not include this much protein, lol!

We all know we need cardio to help fight off cancer, keep us mobile and active, and is great for the heart while keeping us fit.  But do you really need an hour of it?  Of course not!  There are many options that will not only give you a great looking body, but in a much quicker amount of time then just doing an hour of cardio.

Here are your options:

1.  Weights meaning free weights, squats, planks, you name it! The easiest to do all this is by doing interval training with a little bit of cardio. Even 20-30 minutes is all you need!  For example, 30 seconds squats, 30 seconds rest (continue this 2-3 times) then rest for up to 2 minutes.

Add a little bit of walking after your last meal, along with making sure you not overeating along with lots of fruits and veggies you will have a hot bod in no time.

2.  Start skipping rope!  I rather do this for 20 min 5 days a week then an hour on ANY cardio machine!  I have had the best results in the quickest amount of time.  It helps your legs, butt, arms, abs, core!  Love love love!!

3.  Bike riding.  It's kind of like interval training really.  You're going up a hill hard and going down the hill... and its constantly changing.  I will do about an hour- 2 hrs of this and coming home and do a little bit of free weights for my arms.  Yes I do go for a long time, but it's so beautiful being outside, how could you want to hurry this type of serenity?  You can even stop at a park and do some planks, pushups, squats, etc for 20 min!  Or even go to the nearest beach to meditate!

4.  Adding yoga.  Not only does it clear your mind, help you become much more flexible but helps make you more leaner.  I've been doing this for about 2 months and have seen a massive difference in my body, especially my butt! :)

5.  Interval training on machines.  If you are going on a machine the least you can do is 20min of intervals. So going hard as you can for one min and light-medium for 2 min to catch your breath.  So the people who go for an hour- use that setting then increase it to the max for a minute!  Back to normal for 2min.  Yes you will get tired as heck, but wouldn't you rather spending your time doing other things then on that cardio machine for 30 more minutes?  You could instead be lifting some weights or going for a swim, even doing the sauna!

6.  Bootcamps.  Doing them 2-3 times a week mixed with other things such as yoga or your regular workouts gives you much more strength and agility.  Plus it makes you get slim a whole lot quicker and adding the extra sexiness factor to your bod!

Anyways, the bottom line is, stop wasting your time with just boring cardio!  Mixing it up with strength training and other things will not only make a drastic difference in the way you look and feel but you won't have to be bored out of your mind on one machine.

I change my weeks up all the time.  I mix it up with skip rope, zumba, strength training, bike riding, yoga, swimming, boot camps...anything that keeps me moving and ALSO keeps things interesting!

Enjoy!

Pear/banana Smoothie

So yesterday I took a chance in trying out this new smoothie.  It has pears in it.  Pears?  Exactly, "weird" is the first thing I said.  I will try anything once so I took a chance.  It ended up being INCREDIBLE!  If you're one of those people who don't try things once, get over it!  Time to start living it up and remember if you don't try things once, you may be missing out on something wonderful!

Ingredients

  • 2 frozen pears, quartered and cores removed
  • 1 frozen banana, cut in chunks
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 3/4 cup vanilla yogurt
  • 4 pinches ground cinnamon
  • 1 pinch ground nutmeg

This makes a little over 1 serving... so you could probably save some for later!  If you keep smoothies in the fridge, it'll keep as if you just made them!  I also strongly suggest putting one in a covered mug like you do coffee and bring it to work with you.  Then you'll have a reasonably healthy lunch!  Immediately put in the fridge- if it's a little melted just place in the freezer for an hour and then place in fridge!

Enjoy!

ps. Try freezing this- you can eat it like icecream!

New nail polish!!!!!

Ok so as I was shopping around yesterday looking at eyelashes, I have church bells ringing in my ears instantly as I glanced over to this beautiful bottle of nail polish.  It's not only pretty to look at but I new...yep..I knew, it and I will soon be together!  It was love at first sight!  It was the Katy Perry "Teenage Dream" pink sparkly nail polish!  SOOOOOO nice!!!!  You can purchase here! http://www.nailetc.com/tedrnl.html

How much protein do you need in the morning?

Protein and fibre is one of the most important things you need in your diet.  It fills you up, keeps you full LONGER and makes you crave less junk!  It's easy to get into a rut of eating junk food because it never properly fills you up which in the end makes you want to eat more junk food!  When your body lacks proper vitamins, your body craves sugar!  Sadly, we opt for the bad type of sugar.

In the morning we are told that 30g of protein is what we need to fuel us properly throughout the day.  It's a great weight loss tool I assure you.  Unfortunately, 30g of protein isn't always easy to obtain!  I do try to get a bit of protein in my diet daily.  I would like to share with you two of my favourite things to eat in the morning!

One would be EGGS!!  Got to love those eggs!  And no, i'm not talking about chocolate cadbury eggs neither!  Although... those would be good too, lol!

Go grab some organic or farm fresh eggs.  Not only do they taste much better but in the long run, organic or farm fresh will keep you living much longer without problems such as cancer, etc.  Why?  With all the chemicals and steroids they inject in meats and eggs, etc, do you really think we will live long without problems?  I think not!

Add a little bit of milk and butter 2 large eggs for ladies and 3 large eggs for men.  Fry it up with some garlic powder and some salt and pepper.  You can fry up some veggies with it too.  I normally just add fruit to my meal always!  You can also add some melba toast with peanut butter on the side if you are hungrier then usual!

My second favourite meal would be my yummy smoothie I always make!  In a blender mix this all together (good for one serving) you can do it the night before and leave it in the fridge the next day.

Ingredients

1/2 cup of orange juice
1 banana
Handful of frozen spinach
Handful of frozen strawberries
1 scoop of vanilla icecream whey gourmet or 1 tbs of virgin coconut oil
1tbs of flax seed ground (optional for extra fibre, you can't taste it)
1 tbs of plain or vanilla yogurt

Enjoy!

10 Things Every Girl Needs!

This is NOT ordered by importance.  They are all of equal important and based on my opinion only :-)

Mascara- 3 Coats of this baby and you go from where the heck did your lashes go to "hellllllo mamma!" I LOVE using Buxom lash from Sephora!

Tweezers- Well not everyone can afford to professionally get them waxed or threaded (me being one of them).  Preferably, getting them done even first  by a pro is better then doing it yourself.  Then after you can keep plucking the hairs around afterwards.  Now if only I knew this when i was 14!  I'd probably have a lot better eyebrows but instead, one stressful day... I butchered them :(  Eyebrows in my opinion are the most important feature on your face!

Shavers- Being a lady means not feeling like a monkey!  So get a good shaver such as Venus Embrace which is my personal fave!

SuperSmile Toothpaste- Absolutely my favourite toothpaste out there!  My teeth went from big bird yellow to pearly white!  Make sure you do your yearly dentist cleaning though!

Coconut Oil-  Most important thing ever!!!  Not only can you lather your face/body as a moisturizer, but can also use a leave in conditioner for your hair, or an overnight deep hair treatment even use as a  weight loss tool by adding to your cooking/ smoothies, etc and you can even shave with it!  I will be going in much more depth soon enough!

Lip Gloss- Lets face it, guys hate seeing girls with loads of lipstick and tons of sticky lip gloss!  Just give those luscious lips a light sweep of your favourite lip gloss which adds so much femininity while moisturizing!  My fave are easily the ones from Clarins!

Bronzer- Normally I sculpt my cheekbones, nose and temples then blend with a big fluffy brush leaving no lines of any kind!  You certainly don't want to look like a character off of Star Wars!  Can also add a little more as blush.

Self Tanner- Stay far away from those tanning beds ladies!  I unfortunately used them for years, my skin ended up with tons of blotchy freckles and just weird sun spots.  Not the most attractive thing!  So I wanted a cheap, easy to put on self tanner.  After years of looking I finally found it!  You can get it from Sephora.  It's called Self Sun by Clinique.  Just make sure you dry brush before applying, and do not add any moisturizer before hand.  I like doing this after my showers in the morning but you can do this overnight as well!

Jojoba Oil- You can also use this oil for many things.  It mimics your natural sebum on your skin, so makes a wonderful moisturizer, morning and night!  Also good as a leave in conditioner, deep conditioner, body moisturizer, etc.  What I love most is that it's great for cleansing too!  You can not only remove tough eye make-up but the rest of your make-up plus just as a normal cleanser!

Dry Brush- My first one was purchased from Saje.  I use this for about 5 minutes starting from the tips of my toes working towards my neck every morning!  Not only does it wake you up by stimulation, but improves circulation AND helps the appearance of cellulite!  Wowsers!

Please add any of YOUR fave go to tricks as well!  Also any comments are welcomed :)
